Telefunken, Berlin GmbH
In 1903, the Society for Wireless Telegraphy Telefunken mbH (Gesellschaft für drahtlose Telegraphie GmbH) was founded, it was established as a competitor to the british Marconi Company, which had a overwhelming influence in maritime communications in early 20th century, and Telefunken united the knowledge and patents of it's parent companies AEG and Siemens.
In 1941, Telefunken was completely taken over by the AEG (Allgemeine Elektrcitäts Gesellschaft), an in around 1967 the hitherto independent Telefunken GmbH was merged with AEG to become AEG-Telefunken. Due to economic difficulties, certain business units were split off after 1970.
The consumer electronics devision was taken out of the group in 1972 and sold to the French Thomson Group later on.
The division of high-frequency communications and transmitter technology was transferred to Telefunken Systemtechnik GmbH in 1985 and later DASA (German Aerospace AG) in 1989.
In 1996, the former parent company went out of business, the semiconductor production in Heilbronn was continued as Telefunken Semiconductors GmbH & Co. In 2015, this last branch also had to file for bankruptcy.
Much equipment during and shortly after WW II in Switzerland carrying a Telefunken label was in fact produced (and partly developed) at Telefunken Albis, Zurich.
