System material

In 1987, the previous VHF direction finding system P-725 with the Telegon IV system was converted to a modern direction finding system from Plath, Hamburg.

The core component is the Plath SFP 218.43 direction finder, equipped with a receiver and visual indicator with a round DP 10/14 cathode ray tube. A round bearing dial is manually aligned to the maximum deflection on the display and the bearing is display on a digital display.

For frequency determination, the frequency decade FD 5002, the frequency multiplier FW 219 and the tuning unit AG 5002 with the associated control unit SE 5547 are required to operate the direction finding system.
This allows the frequency to be entered directly via a keypad or set in 100 Hz steps using the tuning knob. The display unit alone does not have a frequency input or tuning option.

Further accessories are the HPK 67 bearing compass and the PPS 5M1 bearing test transmitter.

The 8-fold H-Adcock antenna A-1262-V made by AEG-Telefunken with eight dipoles is used as the main direction finding antenna, it is mounted on a Clark SCAM 30 pneumatic telescopic mast.

Deployment

In Switzerland, the four „Unimog S“ trucks were each equipped with an improved P-725 (2) system, and an additional two systems were procured for mobile use in six carrying cases.

The six systems were acquired in 1987 and were assigned to EKF Kp IV/46. They remained in use until liquidation in 2003 and were then replaced by the EA Syst 90.

The vehicles were also equipped with an SE-227 for direction finding commands, usually using wired telephone connections or intercom systems were used for this purpose.
