Associated Industries

Wireless equipment used in the US Armed Forces was typically developed by the US Signal Corps Laboratories; after troop trials, suggestions were made for improvements and these influenced the development of new technologies.

The production of the radios itself was not done by the Signal Corps itself, but contracts were offered for the production of the equipment.

Several well-known US manufacturers could apply for the production of the equipment in so-called contracts, some company names are found on the typeplate next to the designation and the contract number. The production quality could be somewhat scattered, but the contractors had to adhere strictly to the equipment specifications and quality criteria for acceptance.
