====== Alcatel ======
The predecessor of the French group **Alcatel**, the **CGE** or "Compagnie Générale d'Electricité" was founded in Paris in 1898. In 1966, CGE took over the "Société Alsacienne de Constructions Atomiques, de Télécommunications et d'Electronique" and from then on operated under the company name Alcatel.

In 1985, the merger with Thomson took place to form **Alcatel Alsthom**, followed in 1988 by the integration of the telecommunications division of the ITT Group, including **Standard Elektrik Lorenz AG** (SEL).

In 2006, Alcatel merged with the American group Lucent Technologies, and the satellite technology, defence and transport systems divisions were sold to the **Thales** group.
